Fulton Hogan continues to play a major part in the Christchurch rebuild working on the ‘Christchurch Art Gallery Base Isolation Retrofit’ project.
This $20m project uses a design that allows the building to effectively ‘float’ on its foundations during an earthquake.
“We are proud to be carrying out base isolation works in the basement of the Christchurch Art Gallery for the Christchurch City Council,” said Christchurch Rebuild General Manager Tony Gallagher.
“This is a significant project for the city as it will help us secure international art collections in the future. We’re glad to be playing our part in getting the building back on its feet,”
The project involves propping up the building, severing it from its foundations and putting in base isolators.
Working with our designer Ruamoko, this is the first project of this type undertaken by Fulton Hogan, and is a great example of our diverse capabilities.
“This is a move we’ve been deliberate about as there will be other key building around New Zealand that will need to have their foundations upgraded using this kind of technology,” said Edward.
“Customers across New Zealand are looking for a better response to the seismic and building code issues facing the property, development and infrastructure sectors,”
“Ruamoko and Fulton Hogan have responded to this need by combining New Zealand wide construction capability with proven seismic risk management expertise.” he said.
