Fulton Hogan Extends Telecommunications Footprint Into Western Australia

After the successful implementation of the National Broadband Network project in Adelaide, Fulton Hogan has extended its footprint in the telecommunications industry to Western Australia (WA).

The National Broadband Network (NBN) is a national initiative to deliver broadband to every Australian. Fulton Hogan was awarded the contract to construct the Local Fibre Network, Distribution Fibre Network (collectively known as the LNDN) and Single Dwelling Unit Service Activation Drops (SDU’s) in four locations across the Perth metropolitan area.

The AU$15M project will include the installation of 50km of conduit by means of directional drilling, the construction of over 300 pits, hauling of 270km of fibre optic cable, splicing, terminating and testing of the fibre and the connection of fibre optic cable to over 8,000 households in Perth. The majority of the work will be centred in the suburb of Victoria Park, about 5km from Perth’s CBD.

Fulton Hogan and Activ will be joining forces on the project to create employment opportunities for people living with disability in Western Australia.

Mr Peter Kessler, Fulton Hogan’s Chief Executive Officer explained that Fulton Hogan had a proud history of connecting with local communities.

“Over our 80 year history we have prided ourselves on supporting the local communities in which we operate. It’s great to continue this long tradition with Activ and create meaningful employment and development opportunities for people living with disability,”

“This partnership will see Activ create the K-marker labels for the identification of the cable sections which is an integral part in the roll-out of the NBN.” he said.

The NBN rollout program across Australia is expected to continue through to 2018.
