Maitai Street East Cycleway Opened

The Matai Street East cycle way was officially opened by Transport Minister Hon. Simon Bridges on Friday 28 August 2015.

The cycle way, which was built by Fulton Hogan, is the first of four cycle routes under the Christchurch City Council (CCC)’s Major Cycle Routes programme. The NZ$1.6M, two-way, 400m long, 3m wide stretch of separated cycle way now connects cyclists from the University of Canterbury to Central Christchurch City safely and efficiently.

Work to build the cycle way took ten weeks to complete thanks to the hard work of the Fulton Hogan team, who delivered the project early. CCC CEO, Dr Karleen Edwards, thanked Fulton Hogan for their efforts in a letter.

“I would like to extend my thanks to the team involved for all the extra effort that ensured a successful outcome. The can-do approach to achieving revised targets and problem-solving ensured a successful launch and a high-quality facility for the use of all.”
