Project Lift, Gold Coast Airport

Fulton Hogan drew on its vast experience in this sector to complete this complex project in time for the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games.

The scope involved both airside and landside works, including a large amount of vegetation clearance and bulk earthworks, before construction began on two apron bays, a link taxiway and other taxiway work including AGL infrastructure and final asphalt overlays.

Careful planning ensured full pavement reconstruction work could be finished in time for taxiways to re-open before the first flights arrived each day. Roadways, the realignment of a drainage diversion channel, and major drainage / storm water devices were also part of the project.

A robust testing and monitoring regime reduced the risk of impact on endangered flora and fauna species. Fulton Hogan led several innovations that resulted in significant cost savings for the client.

At all times safety and quality remained the priorities – making a positive impression on the client and delivering a much improved piece of infrastructure for Games visitors and other travellers using one of Australia’s busiest airports.
