Midlands Highway – Epping Forest to Powranna

The Midland Highway is located between Belle Vue Road at Epping Forest and Powranna Road at Powranna.

Commissioned by the Department of State Growth, this project involved 11 kilometres of safety upgrades.

The project scope included:

  • 135,000m3 of excavation
  • 2 kilometres of RCP drainage installed
  • 135,000 m3 of pavement installed
  • 195,000m2 of newly sealed surfaces
  • Earthworks including excavation to subgrade and construction of fill as required formation
  • Constructing underground stormwater drainage including culvert structures and subsurface drainage
  • Fencing including the installation of gates and electrical fences
  • Widening stock underpasses
  • Median and roadside barrier installation including wire rope and guardrail
  • Bituminous sealing and asphalt surfacing works
  • Line marking and pavement markings including the installation of raised reflective pavement markers
  • Supply and installation of topsoil, mulch, and grass seeding
  • Landscaping including the reinstatement of disturbed areas.

Fulton Hogan also utilised its extensive experience introducing leading traffic management practices including temporary steel traffic barriers and yellow line marking. The use of these practices is common in Victoria, however they were first introduced to the Tasmanian market following a proposal submitted by Fulton Hogan providing a significantly safer environment for on-site personnel and motorists.
