Fulton Hogan has successfully delivered the major tram works on Melbourne’s St Kilda Road between Queens Way Bridge and Barkly Street, along with Fitzroy Street between St Kilda Road and Princes Street.
Watch the footage captured during the project occupation below.
The team worked tirelessly to deliver this project for our client Yarra Trams from Friday 19 July through to Sunday 28 July 2019. Operations were carried out in two stages to minimise impacts to the local community and wider road network.
Work included breaking out concrete, removing rail track and rubble, replacing tracks, concrete and asphalt, new overhead wiring and the installation of a Gauntlet Switch. The Gauntlet Switch, introduced to Melbourne’s Tram network for the first time during the works, not only reduces the risk of local traffic congestion, tram driver and vehicle accidents, it also provides seamless functionality, longevity and minimal requirements for maintenance.
Yarra Trams Project Manager Amer Aboul-Hosn said, “All construction work on Melbourne’s tram network must adhere to the highest of safety and quality standards. Prior, during and after the occupation, the team were able to successfully cater to engineering, logistical and technical requests by Yarra Tram Project Managers. The team managed to continuously adhere to strict safety regulations and procedures put in place. Fulton Hogan completed the occupation with a high level of professionalism and in record time.”
