The CCNZ Southland 5th annual Construction Awards were held in October. The Southland team entered the Edendale Realignment project in the projects over $300,000 category. Much to the delight of the project manager, Dave Connell, the team picked up the award.
This Edendale Realignment was a high profile contract and one of the largest highway projects seen in Southland for many years. A key driver of the new alignment was to create a better highway connection between Invercargill and Gore as the existing section of highway had three different speed limits, two rail crossings and a sharp 45km/h corner.
The new alignment increased safety with heavy traffic diverted away from the local primary school and brought considerable environmental and liveability benefits for the Edendale community.
Fulton Hogan has a long history in completing maintenance and Rehabilitation works for NZTA in the Southland region, however the Edendale Realignment was by far the largest high profile project undertaken by the local management team whom demonstrated the ability to manage, plan and deliver this large project successfully to a high standard six months ahead of time.
“The Edendale Realignment was a significant project in Southland, having been investigated for some 20+ years it was high profile for both NZTA and the community.” says Dave Connell, senior project manager
“The size and sheer volume of work had its challenges and was by far the largest project taken on by the Southland Region. At tender time, we made some ambitious calls, however with support the local team stepped up to the challenge and certainly delivered. To receive a PACE score of 83 from the client was a great achievement and speaks for itself.”
