Hoddle Street Streamlining – Package B
The Hoddle Street and Punt Road corridor is a critical north-south link to the east of the city. With 330,000 people travelling along and across it every day, it is Melbourne’s busiest arterial road.
The Streamlining Hoddle Street project involved upgrading key intersections along this busy corridor, improving traffic flow and journey reliability.
As Victoria’s first Continuous Flow Intersection (CFI), the main works included delivering new pedestrian paths and crossings, dedicated cycle lanes at Swan Street and the installation of tram and bus lanes, including bus priority traffic lights.
Fulton Hogan delivered these works approximately two months ahead of schedule and under budget. No medical injuries or lost time injuries occurred across approximately 157, 000 working hours over nine months. The Major Skills Guarantee was also achieved with 10% of the workforce being new trainees or graduates.
Numerous safety initiatives were also implemented, such as the use of body cameras for Traffic Controllers and Portable Traffic Booms during the tram occupations.
