From 2011 Fulton Hogan partnered with John Holland in New Zealand to provide large-scale construction and maintenance services for KiwiRail, as well as other public and private clients working in and around the rail corridor.

Kaimai Tunnel is an 8.879km long rail tunnel running through the Kaimai Ranges, connecting between the Waikato and Bay of Plenty regions. The tunnel has been in operation since 1978 and Kaimai Tunnel Upgrade Project comprises of a series of works to improve communication and to remediate or restore operations to a safe and unrestricted condition.

The works which JV Rail completed as part of KTUP included installation of a new communications system, installation of a new track support pad, tunnel ventilation improvement, tunnel cleaning, track slab repairs and installation of new side drain covers.
