McDowell Name Immortalised At Roydon Quarry

28 August 2023:

Among the many families that make up this family company, the name ‘McDowell’ has a special place. So much so, we have named a road after Allan – the veteran of quarrying in Canterbury, father of current Chief Operating Officer Construction, Justin, and grandfather of new recruit, William.

McDowell Drive is the new road into Roydon Quarry, 15km west of Christchurch. At the opening, Capital Projects Manager Richard Smith described Allan as ‘the godfather of quarrying in Canterbury’ and various staff spoke of Allan’s contribution to quarrying and the physical development of Canterbury.

Among them was Justin.

“This quarry is a fantastic addition to Canterbury and and we are very proud and humbled about the naming today,” Justin said.

Allan spoke of the importance of family.

“Fulton Hogan is a family company and it’s fantastic to seen new generations coming through. Quarrying was my game, Justin started in the quarry and hopefully William will take up some role in quarrying or engineering in Fulton Hogan.”
