New BoP headquarters reflects region’s growth

7 August 2024:

In a region whose population is 50 percent Māori, there is no mistaking the commitment Te Ao Māori in the new Bay of Plenty offices in Tauranga. On arrival you are greeted by a two-storey high Noho ora Tohu etching, the ground floor reflects the area’s whenua (land) and moana (ocean) and the first floor is inspired by maunga (mountains). Nearby Matapahi Primary School’s kapahaka group performed at the recent opening.

With the old headquarters bursting at the seams after steadily expanding over time, the Board approved the new home in March 2022. Appropriately enough, they were also on hand to mark its opening. Pictured below are two directors, Bob Fulton and Hamish Johnstone, in front of their respective ancestors, Fulton Hogan founders Jules Fulton and Bob Hogan, in the new building.

Entirely open plan, the layout maximises connections between people and gives the flexibility to cater for future growth.  Home to 90 staff from the regional and Civil division businesses, the building can accommodate up to 140 in future.

Regional Manager Anita Varga made special mention of Fulton Hogan’s Māori Engagement Committee for the inspiration they have brought to the design and spirit of our building.

“It is a place we can all call home and which makes us feel very much at home.”
